How to Draw Flames

Drawing fire, or flames, is actually quite simple and can be done rather methodically through a step-by-step process. Just like any other drawing, you may need to practice a few times to get really good at it, but after you get the hang of it, you will be able to draw flames without a problem.
First, take a look at a flame. The easiest way to do this is to light a match. Once you have done this, take a few seconds to observe its movement. Figure out which position you want to draw the flame in.
Secondly, you will want to begin drawing your flames by first drawing the simple shapes that make up the flames. The easiest way to go about this is to draw two thin S-shaped lines that start close to one another at the bottom and then meet one another to create a pointy top on the top while widening apart in the middle of the drawing.
Next, you will want to draw some more flames like the one above to get the hang of it.
After you have done that, draw the outer flame by drawing a series of S-shaped lines around the first few flames you drew. You may want to add a few more smaller flame shapes on the outskirts of your main flame to illustrate effect and movement.
Once you have finished with that, you can try to add some color to your drawing. Typical flame drawings have three different colors as flames do not burn in just one color. Usually these colors will be blue at the base, yellow around that base while the rest would be red or a bright orange.
Once you have a few drawings under your belt, you will begin getting the hang of it and experimenting with details in the drawing itself.
